Handmade swords

Zainab here!
Sumayyah and I made a couple of handmade swords.

 photo PA034084_zpsd41f2b14.jpg

We used:

Thick cardboard
Glue
Foil
Scissors
Gold paint
Black marker

First of all draw your sword shape on cardboard.
Draw two identical handles as well.

Then cut it out.

Paint the handle of your sword with
gold paint. When it dries go around the
edge with the black marker.

Wrap and glue the sword with foil.

 photo PA034079_zpsaf733de0.jpg

Glue the handles to the front and back of the sword.

 photo PA034081_zps4c00cab8.jpg

If you want you can cut out small shapes
of jewels and paint them, then stick them on
to the handle.

If you have silver paint, you don't need the foil.

Have fun playing with your swords!

Our trip to South Wales, UK

This summer we visited South Wales in the UK.
We spent a week on a narrow boat, it was really nice.
We walked through woods, picked blackberries and
enjoyed the scenery, plants and animals.
We even visited an old castle.

Here are some photos. Enjoy!

Toilet Roll Craft

 Assalaamu alaykum

Here's a nice easy craft using toilet roll tubes, tissue paper,
corrugated craft paper, left over wrapping paper and
a take away foil covered tray.

During Ramadan we'd sometimes buy snacks
for iftar from a bakery. The snacks would
come on a nice silver tray. We decided to
make something pretty on it.
First we made a flower out of toilet roll tubes.
Cut the tubes into sections and pinch
the ends slightly. You will see that it makes a petal shape.
Leave one of the shapes a circle. This will be the middle
of your flower. Glue this onto the tray where you want
your flower to be. Then glue the petals around the circle.
We used a corrugated strip for the stem and painted it
green. Then we made another petal shape for the leaf.

Then we scrunched up small pieces of tissue paper into balls
and glued them inside each petal.

For the leaf we used shiny green wrapping paper.
We also used the wrapping paper for the grass
at the bottom of the collage.

We then made a border using scrunched
up tissue paper again.

The end result is very nice mashaAllah.

You don't have to do this on a tray, any cardboard
or thick paper will be alright.

Star weaving!

Assalaamu alaykum

Here's Sumayyah's 2nd Eid gift for Dad.
It's a woven star!

 photo P7153831_zpsc4552708.jpg

 photo P7153832_zpse0b43ac5.jpg

You will need:

Card - cut into a circle
Scissors- to cut lines around the card (1 inch apart)
Embroidery thread

Directions:

Tie a big knot at the end of the thread and weave in
and out of the lines you snipped out. You can
make any design you want. It's so easy!

Sumayyah used rainbow coloured embroidery thread
for her project.

Enjoy!
